Nantucket Shoals Lightship Data

Subsurface Data

nan.ls - Subsurface mbt (mechanical bathythermograph) data for the period Sept 1965 - Jan. 1973 at 5 m intervals given to K. Elder by George Hiemerdinger who read it from an NODC CDROM.  There are discrepencies in the data however not large. Information regarding format of data is available here.
Note:        Apparently there were two groups reading the mbt slides, one at Woods Hole whose work was published in the Coast Guard Reports, and the other at NCDC. The NCDC group read? (or interpolated) the slide data at 5 meter intervals, whereas the WH group read them at 15 meter intervals.

nan.txt  - text file of nan.ls data tab-delimited, sorted and some field names incorporated by K. Elder.

Monthly files of scanned & digitized USCG Report data by K.Elder.  Bathythermograph temperature readings were made for water depths at approximately 0, 30, 50, 100, 150, and 180 feet.

nls.dat - One file of all scanned & digitized records from Coast Guard Reports period between 1/1956 through 12/1971.

Meteorological Records

nantukt.fm1 - Nantucket Lightship meteorological records digitally keyed in 1998 through NCDC by Orkand in keying format 301.  Period of observations approximately May 1965 - June 1968.

nantukt.fm2 - Nantucket Lightship meteorological records digitally keyed in 1998 through NCDC by Orkand in keying format 300.  Period of observations approximately June 1968 - August 1970.

nantucket.td1129 - Meteorological records (rsz=148 - TD-1129 sfc marine) pulled from TD-1129 marine
database for the approximate  period between August 1970 -  April 1973. File ftpd from NCDC October 1997 via Joe Elms. These data were keyed at NCDC as part of what he called the "New York Bight Study" led by Bill Brower (also at NCDC) much of which was merged into ERL/CDC COADS data (>1970). If you need the format for TD-1129 it can be copied off the web at   http://www4.ncdc.noaa.gov/ol/documentlibrary/datasets.html#TD1129 or can be viewed here td1129.html.
